Venue Online, via Zoom

The PRII DEI Initiative, launched in 2021, is back for a new series. For the PRII, inclusion encompasses all those currently under-represented in our sector or who may feel excluded on the grounds of gender, social class, race, ethnicity, age, visible/invisible disability, neurodiversity, sexual orientation, religion, membership of the Traveller community, migration status or country of origin.

Re-launching the series for 2024, PRII CEO Martina Byrne said that, apart from the obvious reason of a societal good, there are many reasons why the PRII DEI Initiative never had an ‘end-date’.

For example, the 2022 Sector Census carried for the PRII by Amárach, showed:

  • A gender imbalance of 69% female, 30% male.

  • 8% are non-Irish nationals yet over 18% of the population are non-Irish.

  • Just 4% reported having a physical or cognitive disability.

  • 5% identify as gay or lesbian.

Yet the profession asked every day to engage different stakeholders and diverse populations, can best do so when its strategies reflect and are informed by the diversity of lived experience among the team members.

It is also true that demand for public relations and communications advice is growing and as a sector that wants to employ the brightest and the best it needs to be recognised by those planning their careers as open and welcoming to people from diverse backgrounds and identities.

Join us on 14 May (3-4 pm) to hear -

Corporate Social Justice (what it is):

Jeanne McDonagh, CEO, Open Doors Initiative, on the importance of encouraging the organisations you advise to move on from Corporate Social Responsibility towards Corporate Social Justice.

What we do (and you can too):

Harris PR MD, Sonia Harris, MPRII, on her agency’s commitment - and actions - to create opportunities for people of all backgrounds to make a career in PR.

Become a trained Mentor (help others and help yourself):

Talita Holzer, Open Doors, will explain another way PRII members can make a difference - providing mentorship to people facing barriers to start a career in PR and Communications.
